The Burning Sea, the latest disaster epic from the team behind the Norwegian hits The Wave and The Quake, will be reaching theatres and VOD tomorrow, February 25th, and in anticipation of this release, we’re proud to share the EXCLUSIVE first look at a clip from the film. You can check it out in the embed above. This clip matches up to the film’s title by showing us a fiery explosion that occurs out in the open sea.
The Quake director John Andreas Andersen directed The Burning Sea from a screenplay by Harald Rosenløw-Eeg and Lars Gudmestad. Rosenløw-Eeg co-wrote both The Wave and The Quake with John Kåre Raake, who didn’t return for this one. Here’s the official synopsis:
In 1969, the Norwegian government announces their discovery of one of the world’s largest oil fields in the neighboring North Sea, launching a prosperous period of offshore drilling. 50 years later, the environmental consequences begin to manifest – a crack has opened on the ocean floor, causing a rig to collapse. A team of researchers, including submarine operator Sofia, rushes in to search for the missing and assess the cause of the damage, but what they discover is that this is just the start of a possible apocalyptic catastrophe. As rigs are evacuated, Sofia’s loving companion Stian becomes trapped in the depths of the sea, and Sofia must dive in to rescue him.
The film stars Kristine Kujath Thorp, Rolf Kristian Larsen, Anders Baasmo, Bjørn Floberg, and Anneke von der Lippe.
The Burning Sea was produced by Therese Bøhn, Catrin Gundersen, and Martin Sundland. Gary Cranner, Olav Mellgren, and Magnus Thomassen were co-producers, with Thea Benedikte Kevin Karlsen as junior producer, Jan Eirik Langoen as supervising producer, and Bjørn Fjærestad as line producer.
