Do you know what can make a global pandemic worse? Frickin’ dinosaurs, man! I thought that we were starting to get a grip on this Covid-19 business, and now thunder lizards are running amok. When will humanity catch a break? Oh well, I suppose death by dinosaurs would be an epic way to go. Anyway, Judd Apatow’s The Bubble trailer is here, and it’s about to introduce you to a dino crisis during Covid times.
Featuring a stacked cast, The Bubble takes place somewhere in England during October 2020 as a group of actors are quarantined while filming Cliff Beasts 6, the latest in an action franchise where humans battle dinosaurs. Why continue to film during such troubling times, you ask? Well, Cliff Beasts 6 is one of two movies still in production during the onset of the global pandemic, and if it fails, the studio is going down. With the stakes higher than they’ve been, it’s up to Karen Gillan, Iris Apatow, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann, Kate McKinnon, Pedro Pascal, and Peter Serafinowicz to complete the film and save the studio.
The Bubble trailer has this comedy looking like the first pandemic-related film that will elicit genuine laughs from me. The premise alone is positively absurd, and I’m a sucker for a great B-movie with heart. I’ve seen my share of cinematic garbage, and Cliff Beasts 6 looks to set a high bar for low-budget hijinks. Add paranoia, hooking up, and drugs to that mix, and I don’t see how this could fail.
Directed by Judd Apatow from a script penned by Apatow and Pam Brady, The Bubble will roar on Netflix on April 1, 2022.
