Screen Gems has set Jessica M. Thompson (The Light of the Moon) as the director of The Bride, an upcoming vampire feature. The project features Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones, Fast & Furious) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy, Country Strong) in lead roles and is inspired by Bram Stoker's Dracula.
To be presented as a contemporary thriller, The Bride tells the story of a young woman who is courted and swept off her feet, only to realize a gothic conspiracy is afoot. Executives over at Screen Gems love a bloody good vampire story, and it's been said that they hope The Bride has franchise potential. Thus, they are fast-tracking the project with plans to begin production by summer's end.
Emmanuel next will be seen reprising her role as Ramsey in F9: The Fast Saga and in Army of Thieves, the prequel to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead. As for Hedlund, you can catch him in Lee Daniels' The United States vs. Billie Holiday. He also stars in such films as Triple Frontier, Pan, Tron: Legacy, Dreamland, and Dirt Music. As far as upcoming projects are concerned, Hedlund will play Shipp in the Marco Perego Saldana-directed drama Keyhole Garden. He'll also be playing Val in Ed Harris' The Ploughman, a story of the strange friendship between a haunted young deputy sheriff and a notorious old murderer that turns both their worlds upside down.
It sounds like The Bride will be taking a bite out of audiences sooner rather than later, so stay close as details continue to flow.
