Alana Boden has signed on to star in the “contemporary horror thriller” The Bride alongside the previously announced Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones, Furious 7) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy, Death Sentence). Boden’s previous credits include the TV movie I Am Elizabeth Smart (in which she played the title role) and episodes of the shows Ride, Hawaii Five-O, and Alex Rider. Her performance in I Am Elizabeth Smart earned her a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Actress in a Movie Made for TV or Limited Series. She recently finished working on A&E / Lifetime series Flowers in the Attic: The Origins, based on the V.C. Andrews series of novels, and has a supporting role in Ruben Fleischer’s upcoming video game adaptation Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
Details on the characters in The Bride are being kept under wraps. We do know that the story was inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula and centers on
a young woman who is courted and swept off her feet, only to realize a gothic conspiracy is afoot.
So we’re probably dealing with vampires in this story, and I could even imagine Hedlund playing Dracula himself, but the project is shrouded in secrecy for the moment.
Jessica M. Thompson, who made her feature directorial debut with the 2017 drama The Light of the Moon, is directing The Bride from a screenplay by Blair Butler, who originally pitched the project. Butler’s previous credits include Polaroid and Helstrom. Thompson is handling script revisions herself.
Emile Gladstone is producing the film for Screen Gems. The studio is said to be excited about The Bride, feeling that it has franchise potential. So if this one turns out well and is a success, we might have several more Brides to look forward to.
We’ll keep you updated on The Bride as it continues to move forward and more information is revealed.
