Eric Kripke says The Boys spin-off will be loosely inspired by the G-Men

It was announced last month that Amazon was fast-tracking a spin-off of The Boys that would be set at America's only college for young adult superheroes run by Vought International. The spin-off has been described as "an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire and raunch of The Boys." While speaking with The Wrap, series creator Eric Kripke added that the spin-off will be drawing from the G-Men, a parody of Marvel's X-Men.

"I would say it’s loosely inspired by an element of the comics, which is the G-Men," Kripke said. "Part of the G-Men is there’s sort of an educational, college experience, and we just used that as a jumping-off point, kind of similar to ‘The Boys,’ where we sort of take an initial notion and then we are going to run with it in our own weird direction." In the comics, the G-Men were a group of children who had been kidnapped from different homes by John Godolkin and given weekly injections of Compound-V. Once their powers activated, the children were raised with an unlimited bank account and the freedom to do whatever they wanted so long as they always protected the secrets of the G-Men; Oh, and John Godolkin also happened to be a pedophile who regularly sexually molested the children. Lovely. As Kripke said, the spin-off will only be loosely inspired by the G-Men, so it's hard to say just how much they'll be pulling from comics when all is said and done.

The series will be executive produced by Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Craig Rosenberg, who will also be writing the pilot episode. "We think there’s a real opportunity to see another part of the Vought world," Kripke added, "But probably, more importantly, to make a show that isn’t really made that often, which is what we love about it, which is, as ‘The Boys’ is an unflinching look at reality, the goal for this is to make this superhero show one of the most realistic college shows anyone’s made. And really deal with real college issues and really explore what it’s like to be that age." The season two finale of The Boys is slated to debut on Amazon on October 9th.
