Although I haven’t watched either of Troy Duffy’s vigilante action flicks, I am aware that The Boondock Saints have quite the following; Which means that there must be a few of you who are excited by the news that The Boondocks Saints 3 is finally ready to go.

Deadline has reported that Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are set to reunite with writer/director Troy Duffy for Boondock Saints 3. The original film found the pair playing fraternal twin Irish brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus. After taking out a couple of Russian mobsters in self-defense, the twins set out to rid their hometown of Boston of all crime, but that attracts the attention of an FBI agent played by Willem Dafoe. The sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, surfaced a decade later and Duffy is ready to bring the boys back for another film.

The fans have loved these characters for twenty years. They use terms of endearment like ‘the Brothers’ or ‘the Boys.’ We left them in jail at the end of Boondock 2 and fans want to know what happened to them. Norman and Sean have been a driving force to keep this franchise on track and break some new ground story-wise. The fans have been waiting. They literally ask about it daily, and I am really excited to be working with Impossible Dream to make Boondock III a reality.

Troy Duffy will once again direct Boondock Saints 3 and also wrote the script alongside Sean Patrick Flanery, with Norman Reedus contributing a lot of input as well. Production is expected to get underway in May 2022 once Flanery has wrapped on The Boys and Reedus is done with The Walking Dead.

Troy Duffy and the producers are hoping that the latest Boondock Saints sequel will help transform the series into something like the John Wick franchise, with major global appeal. Duffy went on to tease that the film will pick up with the brothers coming out of jail into a work that isn’t like the one they left behind, which causes them to be at odds with one another. “Without getting too deep into the story, what it is is, two boys coming out of prison after staying there much longer than expected, to a brand new world,” Duffy explained. “They’re at odds on whether to push forward. But the type of people we face today in our society, is unlike any we’ve faced before. And that brings them together and they say, we cannot turn our backs on this.” The action will likely receive a bit of a boost as well. as producer Shaun Redick says that they’ll be working with 87Eleven, the John Wick stunt team.
