Despite being left out of the big announcements from the Disney Investor Day, a new Disney+ series was confirmed at the end of the post-credit sequences of last night's season 2 finale of The Mandalorian. The Book of Boba Fett is officially happening in December 2021.
SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SEASON 2 FINALE OF THE MANDALORIAN…YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
If you go beyond the credits sequence in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, you see Return of the Jedi character Bib Fortuna, sitting on his throne in the old palace. Fennec, played by Ming-Na Wen, enters shooting most of the creatures around him and blasts the shackles off of a blue dancing girl. After this, Boba enters Bib exclaims, "Boba, I thought you were dead!" Boba then shoots him dead and takes the throne at Jabba's palace.
We did learn during Disney Investor Day that Disney+ planned on launching "roughly" 10 Marvel series and 10 Star Wars series in the next few years. The Boba Fett announcement was more than likely left out to make sure it was a true surprise during the finale of The Mandalorian. The Boba Fett series will be in addition to two previously announced shows that will be set in the same timeline as The Mandalorian. Those two series are Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka, the latter of which centers on Rosario Dawson's fan-favorite character. The Book of Boba Fett will star Temuera Morrison as the titular character.
