James Ransone is reuniting with his Sinister (watch it HERE) director Scott Derrickson and co-star Ethan Hawke for the upcoming Blumhouse / Universal adaptation of the Joe Hill short story The Black Phone. Ransone will be playing a character named Max, but nothing was revealed about this character other than his name.
Scripted by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, The Black Phone centers on
a kidnapped kid who finds himself in a soundproof basement surrounded by the remains of other victims. When night falls, the antique — and disconnected — telephone in the room begins to ring with the calls from the dead.
Hawke is playing the kidnapper, and is joined in the cast by Mason Thames as the kidnapped kid, Jeremy Davies as the kid's father, and Madeleine McGraw as the kid's sister.
Derrickson and Cargill are producing The Black Phone with Blumhouse's Jason Blum. Hill serves as executive producer.
Ransone played "Deputy So & So", a supporting character who was promoted into a lead role for Sinister 2. He's also known for playing the adult Eddie Kaspbrak in It: Chapter Two.
