New The Black Phone poster reveals titular, unsettling object

Last Updated on March 10, 2022

Our own Gaius Bolling had the chance to watch director Scott Derrickson’s adaptation of the Joe Hill story The Black Phone way back in October, and you can read his 9/10 review at THIS LINK. The rest of us have to wait until June 24th to see this one… but at least we have some interesting posters to look at in the meantime. A really cool, retro-style poster was unveiled a couple months ago, and now Derrickson has shared a Finnish poster for the movie that focuses on the black phone itself. You can see that poster at the bottom of this article.

If you’d like to read the Black Phone short story while we wait for the film’s release, it can be found in Hill’s collection 20th Century Ghosts, which you can buy HERE. The movie stars Mason Thames as

Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

Jeremy Davies plays Finney’s father, Madeleine McGraw is Finney’s sister, and James Ransone is in there as a character named Max. Ethan Hawke takes on the role of the film’s villain, who is called The Grabber and wears a mask designed by Tom Savini.

Derrickson wrote the screenplay adaptation with his Sinister and Doctor Strange co-writer C. Robert Cargill. Derrickson and Cargill are also producing The Black Phone with Blumhouse’s Jason Blum. Hill serves as executive producer.
