Warner Bros. Japan has dropped a new trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman that fans believe teases an appearance by the Joker. You can check out the new trailer for yourself below and we’ll get into just why some fans think that it points to the Joker once you’re done.
There have been rumours that the Joker would be appearing in The Batman for some time, with some saying that Barry Keoghan (Eternals) has been cast as the iconic villain. It remains to be seen whether or not the Clown Prince of Crime will return to menace Robert Pattison’s Bruce Wayne, but there are several moments in the trailer that has fans believing he will.
At just twelve seconds into The Batman trailer, we see a wall of photographs of Bruce Wayne, both as a child and an adult. In the photo in the bottom left, we see a portion of a face behind Bruce Wayne that appears to be grinning rather grotesquely. The next possible Joker tease comes at the very end of The Batman trailer when a mysterious voice says, “I’ve been trying to reach you… Bruce Wayne,” followed by a soft, yet ominous, chuckle. All of this plays over footage of a prisoner whose face we don’t see. Now, this could just as easily be Paul Dano’s Riddler, but you can see why fans are jumping to the Joker.
Given that the Joker is easily the most popular Batman villain, it’s only a matter of time before he faces off against Robert Pattinson. So I wouldn’t be surprised if The Batman puts a few pieces on the board to prepare for the Joker’s inevitable appearance, similar to Batman Begins. What do you think?
The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/The Batman, with Jeffrey Wright playing James Gordon, Paul Dano playing the Riddler, Zoe Kravitz playing Selina Kyle, Andy Serkis playing Alfred, John Turturro playing Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard playing Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, and Colin Farrell playing Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin. The Batman is set to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
