Director Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman is one of the rare superhero films we cover here on Arrow in the Head, as we’re anxiously looking forward to its March 4, 2022 release date… still so far away. At least we know we’ll have a new trailer to watch next month, as it’s going to be released on Saturday, October 16th as part of this year’s DC FanDome event. To help us get through that wait, Reeves and composer Michael Giacchino have both shared behind-the-scenes previews of the film. Celebrating Batman Day on September 18th, Reeves shared an image on Twitter from The Batman as seen on a screen in the editing room, and Giacchino posted video of an orchestra recording a very cool piece of score for the film.
If you’re out of the loop on Batman Day (as I was), this is a “global celebration” that happens on the third Saturday of every September.
Scripted by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman has the following synopsis:
Set during his second year of crime-fighting, Batman takes on The Riddler, Catwoman, and The Penguin in this dark new take on The Dark Knight.
The film stars Robert Pattinson as The Batman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
Farrell has said that he has very limited screen time in the film: “I’m only in it for five or six scenes, so I can’t wait to see the film ’cause it won’t be ruined by my presence. It’s a freebie for me. I’ll get a little bit uncomfortable for the f*cking nine minutes I have and then the rest, I cannot wait to see how (Reeves) brought this world to life.”
Keep an eye on the JoBlo Network to see the new trailer for The Batman as soon as it’s released next month.
