The Batman: Colin Farrell says The Penguin won’t have much screen time

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It has already been eleven months since we saw the awesome trailer for director Matt Reeves' The Batman, which took about fourteen months to get through production due to a lengthy delay caused by the pandemic shutdown, which was followed by the speed bump of star Robert Pattinson testing positive for COVID-19 when production resumed. The project has been in post since this past March, moving steadily along toward its March 4, 2022 release date. One fan who's really looking forward to seeing the movie is cast member Colin Farrell, who feels safe to get hyped for the film because he only has a few scenes as The Penguin.

Speaking with MTV's Josh Horowitz, Farrell said,

I'm only in it for five or six scenes, so I can't wait to see the film 'cause it won't be ruined by my presence. It's a freebie for me. I'll get a little bit uncomfortable for the f*cking nine minutes I have and then the rest, I cannot wait to see how (Reeves) brought this world to life. 'Cause the sets were extraordinary, the production design extraordinary, and then his use of music and sound will be extraordinary, and the cast, all of them, Robert and Zoe to… yeah, extraordinary cast."

Scripted by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman has the following synopsis:

Set during his second year of crime-fighting, Batman takes on The Riddler, Catwoman, and The Penguin in this dark new take on The Dark Knight.

In addition to Farrell as The Penguin and Pattinson as The Batman, the film's cast includes Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

Farrell was unrecognizable in the trailer, buried under the makeup effects that were done to turn him into The Penguin. That made his presence one of the most intriguing things about the movie to me, those "five or six scenes" / "nine minutes" he has are the moments from The Batman I'm most looking forward to seeing.
