The Batman 2 & Penguin series set after Matt Reeves signs rich WB deal

The Batman, HBO Max, streaming

Director Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. have reached a major deal, with the director signing a “multi-year first look” deal with the studio and (bat)signaling The Batman 2.

In a statement, Reeves said of the deal, “Making this legendary studio my home is a dream…I am so excited to be working with Mike [De Luca, co-chair/CEO], Pam [Abdy, co-chair/CEO], and Channing [Dungey, Warner Bros. Television Group and chairman] and our teams to bring captivating stories I am truly passionate about to the big and small screen.”

The first question fans likely have is, When are we getting our sequel to The Pallbearer?! But after that, it’s probably, What’s the news on The Batman 2?

Well, as it turns out, it was also announced today via THR that Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin will co-write the script for The Batman 2, a major reveal considering just last week Variety reported it was merely “in development.” Tomlin did work on the first The Batman but didn’t receive screen credit. Robert Pattison will also be returning as The Caped Crusader.

In addition to The Batman 2 (there will be a better title, right?), other Batman entities will be in production through Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho company. Warner Bros.’ television unit will handle HBO Max’s The Penguin, with Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobbleplot (Farrell has also expressed interest in appearing in The Batman 2. Will we also get Nicholas Cage as Egghead?! There will also be a series based around Arkham Asylum.

Dungey heaped hgh praised on Reeves. “Matt is one of the most imaginative and creative minds in the business…We look forward to continuing our partnership with the wonderful 6th & Idaho team and expanding the world Matt so artfully created with The Batman film through our upcoming series The Penguin.”

What are your thoughts on this multi-year deal between Matt Reeves and Warner Bros.? What sort of Batman-related content would you like to see?
