I certainly hope that you're prepared for more of Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn as BAD MOMS, because STX Entertainment have announced that they're fast-tracking a sequel. With a small budget of just $20 million and a worldwide gross of close to $200 million, putting a BAD MOMS sequel into development was only natural.
Titled A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS, the upcoming sequel will find the under-appreciated and over-burdened sisterhood dealing with the stresses of the most wonderful time of year as their own mothers visit for the holidays. Ruh oh. Let the fan casting begin! The sequel will once again be written and directed by Jon Lucas & Scott Moore and will be released on November 3, 2017. Adam Fogelson, Chairman of the STX Entertainment Motion Picture Group, said:
This is a brand that has enormous goodwill all over the world, so expanding and extending the BAD MOMS franchise in an authentic and irreverent way has been a priority for our team. Jon and Scott have a truly hysterical story that was pure perfection. Mila, Kristen and Kathryn are excited to re-team, and we will move forward with A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS on a similar time table and in much the same way in which we produced the original.
I never got around to seeing BAD MOMS for myself, but, in his review, our own Chris Bumbray called it a "very pleasant mid-summer surprise" in a "season full of half-assed comedies." In addition to A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS, there's also a BAD MOMS spinoff titled BAD DADS in the works which is slated for a July 14, 2017 release. Not everything needs to be a franchise, people.
