While we’re still waiting for a release date here in the States, the UK will have the chance to make friends with THE BABADOOK as it has been slated for an October 24 theatrical release. Since making the festival rounds THE BABADOOK has been struck with some high praise as it terrified audiences at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and now we've got a new clip that opens up the disturbing storybook known as THE BABADOOK.
I like that in the clip the mom actually tries to convince her kid to read something else because it becomes immediately apparent that this particular kid's book is freaky as shit. The kid, however, guilt trips her—as they do—into continuing the story. You're going to regret that, dude.
Written and directed by Jennifer Kent, THE BABADOOK goes like this:
Six years after the death of her husband, Amelia struggles to discipline her “out-of-control” six-year-old Samuel – a son she finds difficult to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called “The Babadook” turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. And when Amelia begins to see glimpses of the creature herself, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may well be real.
THE BABADOOK stars Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Daniel Henshall, Hayley McElhinney, Barbara West and Ben Winspear.
