A lot of us are still talking about last week’s great first trailer for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON; if you haven’t seen it yet, what’s wrong with you? Over the years we have come to know each of these characters from their own solo projects as well as an unstoppable unit when they all get together. It’s a great amount of fun that sadly can’t go on forever. Looking at the devastation we saw in the trailer, it’s not hard imagine that this movie might set in motion a few changes that we’re going to have to get comfortable with.
In the comic books, The Avengers roster changes when certain superheroes come and go to deal with their own storylines. They might eventually return to the group, but in their absence, The Avengers are still a group with other superheroes coming on board.
In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige talked about that model:
"It's like as it was in publishing when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event. Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was, I envision the same thing occurring after this movie, because the [Avengers] roster is altered by the finale of this film.”
They had to do it sooner or later, and I suspect they know many people will be weary of change. I suppose the best thing to do is to trust that they know what course of action they’re taking with our superheroes and hope for the best. With the recent news that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man will be appearing in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 for a potential Civil War storyline, I get the sense it’s all being laid out before our eyes. I’m ready!
If the line-up is changing, who's on your wish list for the altered group?
