Just a couple weeks ago, a teaser trailer was released for TROLLHUNTER director André Øvredal's English language debut film THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE that was cut together in a way that was very effective and creepy while also not giving away very much at all. The newly released red band trailer, which can be seen below, is also troubling and creepy in its own way, showing a bit more but also keeping most of the film's secrets obscured.
There's just one quick flash image in there that I might wish I hadn't seen before watching the actual movie, but I'm not going to be going through the trailer again and freeze framing to get a better look at that potential spoiler.
Written by Ian B. Goldberg and Richard Naing (who at one point wrote a draft of the next FRIDAY THE 13TH movie, before the found footage approach was abandoned), THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE stars Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch as
father and son coroners who receive a mysterious homicide victim with no apparent cause of death. As they attempt to identify the beautiful young “Jane Doe,” they discover increasingly bizarre clues that hold the key to her terrifying secrets.
After catching a screening of the film at the Toronto International Film Festival, Chris Bumbray gave JANE DOE a 5/10 review because he felt it fell apart in the second half. That provides a reason to keep expectations in check, but these trailers are doing a hell of a job enticing me to watch this movie as soon as possible.
THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE will be receiving a limited theatrical release on December 21st.
