The Artist cements its position as the Best Picture Oscar frontrunner, Producers Guild names it the best film of 2011

Fanfare for THE ARTIST is coming like an avalanche from lots of critics (despite my anecdotal evidence pointing to the fact that most audiences certainly like it, but are perplexed by the outpouring of awards love it’s getting). The take on silent films from director Michel Hazanavicius has won the Best Film award from the Producers Guild of America. The winner of the PGA award has historically gone on to win the Best Picture Oscar more often than not, so if you’re still holding your breath for DRIVE or something to pull a fast one – don’t.
