FX Networks is plotting more scary stories from the world of American Horror Story but it's doing so with a twist. It has been announced that a new anthology series spinoff, American Horror Stories, is in the works. Co-creator and executive producer, Ryan Murphy, confirmed the new series in a new social media post on Instagram.
Murphy let the news slip with an Instagram post featuring the cast of American Horror Story on a zoom call where he mentioned: "we reminisced about the good times…the spin-off we're doing called "American Horror Stories" (one hour contained episodes)…when we will start filming the next season of the mothership…and other stuff I cannot print." You can check out Murphy's Instagram post below:
The exciting thing about the announcement and zoom call was seeing who was featured on it, which indicates many of our American Horror Story favorites could be involved with the spinoff. Featured on the call was Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Finn Wittrock, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Dylan McDermott, Leslie Grossman, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga and many more. Not much is known about the spinoff series of yet but sources via "Deadline" say the series is a companion anthology series to American Horror Story where each episode is a standalone ghost story.
Season 10 of American Horror Story is in a bit of limbo as, like all Hollywood productions, work is on halt as of now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Murphy mentioned last week that the season may have to see a setting change because the season was intended to be weather specific and a lot of how they move forward will be determined by when they can actually go back to work.
This could be a good idea and may actually lead to solid standalone episodes that aren't bogged down by having to focus on a season-long narrative. Perhaps this can breathe some new life into the American Horror Story franchise.
