The Amazing Spider-man breaks a box office record and confirmed to be the first of a trilogy

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN already had a sequel in the bag before the release of the film a couple of days ago. Now that it has set the record for the biggest Tuesday opening of all time with $35 million, Sony has confirmed a second sequel will be coming as well.

Per THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN’s Facebook page:

It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.

The reviews have been pretty good for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN with many saying it is good but not quite as good as Raimi’s first two SPIDER-MAN films. Director Marc Webb has not signed on for a sequel but Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are locks. Could we have another HUNGER GAMES style issue with kicking the director to the curb as soon as the movie opens huge at the box office?

It remains to be seen if THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN will hold ground at the box office past this opening week like THE AVENGERS did. With THE DARK KNIGHT RISES looming on the horizon only a few weeks away, it looks like it may be tough going for your friendly neighborhood webslinger, if you consider a $150 million opening week tough going.
