The Advent Calendar trailer: French horror fantasy comes to Shudder in December

The Shudder streaming service let us know way back in August that they would be releasing the “chilling French horror fantasy” The Advent Calendar in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand sometime in December. Now they have confirmed a specific release date of Thursday, December 2nd – and with that confirmation comes the release of a trailer, which you can check out in the embed above.

Written and directed by Patrick Ridremont (Dead Man Talking), The Advent Calendar is described as being “ornate and elegant” as it combines “Faustian themes and allusions with European folklore and tense, chilling terror”. The film stars Eugénie Derouand of Paris Police 1900 as

Eva, an ex-dancer, who is now living in a wheelchair, unable to walk. When her friend Sophie gives her an old wooden antique advent calendar before Christmas, she realizes each window contains a surprise that triggers repercussions in real life. Some of them are good, but most of them are bad, really bad. Now Eva will have to choose between getting rid of the calendar or walking again – even if it causes death and destruction to everyone she holds dear around her.

Derouand is joined in the cast by Honorine Magnier (Tomorrow Is Ours), who plays Eva’s friend Sophie.

The Advent Calendar was produced by Alain Benguigui, Virginie Ogouz, Jean-Yves Roubin, and Cassandre Warnauts.

The movie looks quite promising to me and I always like to watch some Christmas-themed horror flicks during the holiday season, so I will definitely be giving this one a look next month.
