It's been quite a while since one of the creepiest and kookiest families in television history were up on the big screen. In fact, not since the 1993 release of director Barry Sonnenfeld's ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES have Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Thing and Granny bucked conventional norms by living their best lives as pinnacles of the morose and macabre. Thankfully, United Artsts Releasing and directors Greg Tiernan (SAUSAGE PARTY) and Conrad Vernon (ALIENS VS. MONSTERS) are readying THE ADDAMS FAMILY, an animated family comedy that's poised to bring the all together ooky family back in a big way.
Here's a little bit of history about THE ADDAMS FAMILY:
The Addams family began their macabre life as single-panel gag illustrations by cartoonist Charles Addams that appeared primarily in the New Yorker. Their popularity led to the Addams Family becoming a television show in the 1960s that starred John Astin and Carolyn Jones as well as an animated series in the early 1970s. The family enjoyed a revival in the early 1990s with a pair of movies that starred Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, and Christina Ricci.
The premise revolved around Gomez and Morticia Addams and their children named Wednesday and Pugsley. Also in the household were Uncle Fester and Grandmama, plus their imposing butler Lurch, the disembodied hand Thing, and Cousin It. (via Variety)
With a screenplay written by Matt Liberman (THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES) the upcoming animated film stars Oscar Isaac as Gomez Addams, Charlize Theron as Morticia Addams, Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday Addams, Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley Addams, Nick Kroll as Fester Addams, and Bette Midler as Granny. Elsie Fisher also stars as Parker Needler, while Allison Janney will lend her voice to Margaux Needler.
The new film based on Charles Addams' series of cartoons about a peculiar, ghoulish family will arrive in theaters on October 18th.
