Anyway, such is the case for Tim Burton, as we continue to wait to see what his next directorial project will be. Sure, he has the big screen animated adaptation of his short FRANKENWEENIE on the horizon, but what about after that? According to producer Christopher Meledandri, Burton is wanted to direct the upcoming animated film version of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, though whether he will or not is still up in the air.
As reported by ComingSoon.net, Burton is involved with the project, but not officially as director… at least, not yet anyway. Other tidbits about the project include… the film will be made in stop-motion animation (THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS style!), it will be based on the original The New Yorker comics series by Charles Addams and not the TV series, and it may(or may not) be released in black & white.
Just keep in mind this is the producer talking, so obviously he wants to be hopeful when speculating whether or not Burton will come on board to direct. Truth is, that part isn’t certain… however, that an animated film version of THE ADDAMS FAMILY is coming is certain, and that’s pretty darn cool.
Burton would be a fantastic choice to direct, but having the guy involved in any way, shape, or form would probably be just as good. Click HERE to see Meledandri’s speculation as to Burton’s involvement, and stick around for more ADDAMS FAMILY updates as we hear them!
