I still haven’t gotten around to watching the 2019 animated version of The Addams Family (which can be viewed at THIS LINK), but plenty of people have – during its theatrical release, it earned $204 million at the global box office, on a budget of $24 million. So it makes sense that a sequel is set to be released on October 1st – and, given these crazy times we’re enduring, it also makes sense that MGM has decided to release The Addams Family 2 as a premium online rental the same day the film reaches theatres.
Scripted by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, The Addams Family was directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, who also directed the previous film. This sequel has the following synopsis:
Everyone’s favorite spooky family is back in the animated comedy sequel, The Addams Family 2. In this all-new movie, we find Morticia and Gomez distraught that their children are growing up, skipping family dinners, and totally consumed with “scream time.” To reclaim their bond they decide to cram Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, and the crew into their haunted camper and hit the road for one last miserable family vacation. Their adventure across America takes them out of their element and into hilarious run-ins with their iconic cousin, It, as well as many new kooky characters. What could possibly go wrong?
The voice cast for this iteration of the Addams family includes Oscar Isaac as Gomez, Charlize Theron as Morticia, Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton as Pugsley (replacing Finn Wolfhard, who was 2019’s Pugsley), Bette Midler as Grandmama, and Snoop Dogg as It, with Wallace Shawn and Bill Hader as new characters.
With more than a month left to go before The Addams Family 2 reaches screens big and small, maybe I’ll catch up on the 2019 movie by the time this one is released.
