When Thanos was first introduced to audiences during a post-credit scene in THE AVENGERS, it became clear that Marvel was going to be working towards a galactic-sized brawl with the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes going up against the Mad Titan himself. However, aside from a couple of brief cameos in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, Thanos hasn't had much of an opportunity to make his presence felt. That's all set to change once the two-part AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR rolls around as screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have told The Huffington Post that giving Thanos (Josh Brolin) his time to shine is paramount.
You know, he’s never been the villain in any of the movies. He’s never been the main character in that way, so giving lots of good screen time to Thanos is paramount and pretty fun.
Since we've known for quite some time that Thanos would eventually make his mark on the MCU, Markus and McFreely say that using that fan anticipation has been both a challenge and an advantage.
There’s an aspect of, you know, people know what’s coming, so our challenge is how best are we going to handle this somewhat known quantity. But also he’s barely been touched on. He’s at about 20 seconds of screen time. He hasn’t had an amazing scene. I think it’s an advantage ultimately, right? Because people are anticipating this guy coming in and really delivering the goods. So, I think they’re eager, and we just have to deliver it. We don’t have to convince them that he’s gonna be interesting. We just have to execute what has been teased.
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART ONE will hit theaters on May 4, 2018, with PART TWO following on May 3, 2019.
