There’s a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game coming our way from Gun Interactive (the company that previously brought us Friday the 13th: The Game) and Sumo Nottingham, and it was announced a while back that Kane Hodder is doing the motion-capture performance for the iconic, chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. When Hodder did the motion-capture for the Friday the 13th game, he only worked with two stunt people; one male, one female. But other genre actors are joining him on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre set, and during a panel at the Mad Monster convention it was revealed that three of Hodder’s fellow cast members in the game are Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), Kristina Klebe (Don’t Kill It), and Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs).
Details on the characters Taylor-Compton, Klebe, and Whalen are playing were not revealed. Klebe previously worked with Gun to do a vocal performance for the Friday the 13th game.
Gun Interactive’s Ronnie Hobbs and Wes Keltner also confirmed that the events of the game take place some months before the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie (watch it HERE), allowing for Leatherface to be joining by The Cook and The Hitch-Hiker in asymmetrical matches that will pit three killers against four potential victims. There will also be other killers in the game, some based on characters original Chainsaw co-writer Kim Henkel came up with, some created by the game’s developers. But regardless of whether the killer is someone from the movie or just being introduced in the game, they won’t be dead by the end of a match. Hobbs and Keltner said,
You cannot kill the killers in this game. Unlike (Friday the 13th), there won’t be a lot of weapons. There’s not gonna be a huge combat system where you can team up on Leatherface. This is strictly about survival. There are little ways to defend yourself, but you won’t be grabbing a baseball bat and trying to attack Leatherface.”
“The beauty of the original IP is, unless you’re driving a truck, you didn’t kill any of the original killers.”
“You think about the (characters in the original movie), they’d never been in anything like that before in their life. They were normal people who were thrown into this super traumatic, horrifying experience, so they’re not equipped to fight back, really. They’re not equipped to defend themselves. They’ve never seen anything like this. We wanted to make sure we played into that as well.”
So far we know that maps in the game will include the farmhouse and the gas station. An image of the gas station featured a missing person flyer, and that’s a very important piece of the story:
(The missing person) is a young lady named Maria Flores, she’s a college student at the University of Texas, and she is really the catalyst of the main character that sets all the events in motion. She loves to go and see the Texas wildflowers during wildflower season. Unfortunately, on one of her trips she runs into a family member who we haven’t revealed yet, a new one, and it’s their encounter that leads Maria’s sister and her friends to come searching for poor Maria. Unfortunately, she’s not alive anymore, she’s not a playable character, but her friends are and her sister.”
It sounds like they’re really building something interesting with this game. I can’t wait to play it… but it will still be a while before we can. A release date for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game has not been announced.
