So TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D basically made back it’s entire budget over the course of the weekend, which means it’s all gravy for Lionsgate from here on out. It also means the company has greenlit a sequel to the franchise, which is a very good thing for horror fans.
Our contemporaries report the producers behind Texas Chainsaw 3D had acquired the rights to make up to 7 more films (including this one), and that this Leatherface adventure is the beginning of an entire new franchise at Lionsgate. While we very much doubt Lionsgate will squeeze seven more films out of the series, the success of the slasher sequel is a very good sign for the horror genre.
Think of it this way: in the years following the box office smash that was the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake, we got new entries involving Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. Granted, they were remakes, but you get the point. I don’t want to jump the gun or anything, but the profitability of TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D could likely lead to a resurgence in 80s slasher figures over the next couple of years and that is always a good thing. It could also inspire additional sequels to original slasher film series, which is most horror fans’ dream come true. Whether or not you agree with this prediction, by all means talkback below with your own thoughts as to TC3D’s success.
