Tessa Thompson & others want their own female-led Avengers movie

We may not have been officially introduced to Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie just yet, as the release of THOR: RAGNAROK is still several weeks away, but the first reactions to Taika Waititi's THOR sequel have heaped quite a lot of praise on Thompson's character, which is a good thing as Valkyrie is set to remain a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tessa Thompson already has plans for that future, which may include an AVENGERS-style team-up of Marvel's female super-heroes.

At a THOR: RAGNAROK press-conference, Tessa Thompson revealed that she, along with several other of Marvel's female stars, approached Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige with their request.

Recently, I marched up with a couple of other women that work in Marvel and we went to Kevin, ‘What about a movie with some female super heroes? Like all of them?’

Kevin Feige replied, "It was a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere and have your shoulder get tapped and turn around every female hero we have is standing there going, 'How about it?' And I said, 'Yes.'" The MCU certainly contains enough female heroes to make the idea work, in addition to Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, the potential team could also include Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Evangeline Lilly's Wasp, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Karen Gillan's Nebula, Pom Klementieff's Mantis, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif, and Brie Larson's Captain Marvel. Obviously this isn't a guarantee that the project will see the light of day, after all, Kevin Feige has long been vocal of his desire for a Black Widow movie, but so far, there hasn't been much movement on that front.

Tessa Thompson came prepared, commenting that "there’s a precedent for it in the comics, right? With teams like Lady Liberators?" Surprised, Kevin Feige said, "Deep cut! Lady Liberators, deep cut!" The Lady Liberators first appeared in a 1970 issue of The Avengers, where the team was formed by the Enchantress, who disguised herself as Valkyrie and mentally manipulated the Wasp, Black Widow, Medusa, and Scarlet Witch to do her bidding. The team was re-introduced years later, this time led by She-Hulk, and included Black Widow, Invisible Woman, Hellcat, Spider-Woman, Storm, Tigra, Thundra, and Valkyrie among its ranks.

What do you folks think about a female-led AVENGERS movie? Which other female Marvel heroes could take part?
