Having made a very well received directorial debut with last year's EX MACHINA, 28 DAYS LATER / DREDD screenwriter Alex Garland is gearing up to step behind the camera again for ANNIHILATION, an adaptation of a Jeff VanderMeer novel about
a group of women who take on a dangerous mission where the laws of nature don't apply.
The group consists of an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist who serves as the group’s de facto leader; and a biologist, who serves as the narrator.
Natalie Portman and Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez are already signed on to star in the film, and TheWrap hears that Tessa Thompson is "being eyed" to play a third member of the team.
With a decade of acting credits to her name, including a recurring role on Veronica Mars, Thompson may be familiar to audiences from any number of projects, but she really started to gain attention for her performances in 2014's DEAR WHITE PEOPLE and SELMA. She can currently be seen alongside Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone in CREED.
ANNIHILATION sounds like a cool project to me, and I would be very glad to see Thompson join Portman and Rodriguez in the cast. Hopefully the eyeing going on will result in a done deal.
