We’ve been warned about the dangers that will come from our reliance on technology for so long, from HAL going rogue in 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and Skynet taking over in TERMINATOR to men being dubbed by hot robots in EX MACHINA. But the time of our doom may be closer than you think, and instead of mankind’s demise arriving in the form of seductive artificial intelligence the new horror flick THE DRONE shows the downfall of man being at the hands (er, blades) of a maniacal drone. Yes, mankind should have been cautious when using this airborne tech for the ultimate Instagram pic, and now we’re paying the price!

From director Jordan Rubin (ZOMBEAVERS), THE DRONE centers on a newlywed couple (Alex Essoe, DOCTOR SLEEP; John Brotherton, FULLER HOUSE) who discover their new bundle of joy – a drone – is having some behavioral issues, Turns out, a serial killer transferred his consciousness to the flying gadget before he was killed (you know, that old cliché) and now the machine is off to terrorize everyone with its state of the art design, impressive features and durable rotor blades. It really is a stellar piece of equipment…aside from the killing bit.
From the get-go, it’s easy to see this is not one of those Redbox horror flicks that takes itself too seriously to be scary and too terrible to be considered a movie, but rather a gleefully silly, violent B-movie that you gather the squad to watch and get drunk to. How can you not giggle when the drone chops off a dude’s business or rocking ominously in a rocking chair like a possessed doll? It's like SHARKNADO, but possibly with fewer sharks.
