The unrated independent horror film Terrifier 2 (read our review HERE) has raked in over $8 million at the box office since its initial release on October 6th and is now available to watch on the Screambox streaming service. The fans who have made the film such an unprecedented success have also been so vocal about their opinion that Terrifier 2 deserves Oscar nominations – for the special effects, for lead actor David Howard Thornton, for lead actress Lauren LaVera – that it was even reported on by the Daily Mail. So the folks behind the movie have now officially submitted it for Oscar consideration.
A press release notes, The most vomit-inducing movie since The Exorcist with the most shocking effects since An American Werewolf in London is coming for the Academy Awards, as Terrifier 2 has been submitted for Oscar consideration by Bloody Disgusting. The fan-driven campaign encourages supporters to tag @TheAcademy on Twitter with the hashtag #OscarsForArt.
“No, it will never actually happen. Yes, it’s a total goof,” admits Bloody Disgusting Managing Director Brad Miska. “But you know what? The thought of having members of the Academy endure an extreme unrated horror movie that they would otherwise consider beneath them? That’s just too hilarious of an opportunity to pass up.”
Written and directed by Damien Leone, Terrifier 2 tells the following story: After being resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to Miles County where he must hunt down and destroy a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night. As the body count rises, the siblings fight to stay alive while uncovering the true nature of Art’s evil intent.
Terrifier (buy a copy of it HERE) star David Howard Thornton reprises the role of the bloodthirsty Art the Clown and is joined in the cast of Terrifier 2 by Lauren LaVera (Iron Fist), Elliott Fullam (Instinct), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Tamara Glynn (Halloween 5), Samantha Scaffidi (American Fango), Griffin Santopietro (Cobra Kai), and Chris Jericho (Killroy Was Here).
This sequel is actually the third feature with Art the Clown in it. Before making Terrifier, Leone introduced the character in short films that were included in the 2013 horror anthology All Hallows’ Eve.
