Terminator TV series being made in conjunction with new film?

What would you rather see, a new TERMINATOR movie or TV show? Well folks, it looks like we're going to get both!

Deadline has it that Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures are expanding the newfangled TERMINATOR reboot on both big and small screen. The plan is to create a TV series that will be produced in conjunction with the theatrically slated 2015 movie reboot. Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (THOR, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) have been tapped to write the TV show, while Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis are still slated to write the feature film (with Alan Taylor still directing and Arnie still starring).

But here's where things get tricky. The new Terminator TV series will follow a "critical moment" in the 1984 James Cameron film, whereas the new TERMINATOR movie will go in an entirely different direction (but also reference the original). That said, both the new film and series will most likely intersect at some point down the road. At least, that's the idea, a la Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." How or when it will all play out is anyone's guess.

Perhaps even more puzzling is how Paramount (partnered with Skydance and Annapurna for the film) is not yet involved with the TV series at this time, but they could be down the road. My guess is they will need to be in order to keep continuity between the film and series. Otherwise, massive confusion could be waged on the viewer.

Anyway, what do you think about all this? Is the idea of a concurrent TERMINATOR movie and TV series a good one? Or is it going to be overkill?
