Just the other day we reported that the TERMINATOR films were dead in the water over at Paramount. Today we are here with the update that, yes, while Paramount is choosing to forgo the rights to any future TERMINATOR flicks, that does not mean the franchise as a whole is. Far from it, actually.
It was reported earlier this year that James Cameron wanted to return to the franchise, and had recruited DEADPOOL director Tim Miller to helm the potential flick. Now Skydance head David Ellison told Collider that there will be a major announcement coming in 2017.
David Ellison on the future of TERMINATOR:
“I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me its an incredibly bright future. I think where it’s going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2.”
“We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It’s something we’re incredibly excited about and we think is the direction it needs to head.”
"The continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2", huh? Now I hate to be some sort of rumor monger but we did get that news about James Cameron returning to the franchise for the first time since TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY, so while the news might not end up being that Cameron will be the next flick's director (but could you imagine?) maybe the news will be of his involvement as a producer and or (gasp) the writer?!
Again, this is all my random speculations here. Nothing is confirmed. One way or the other, keep tuned in for more news on the future of TERMINATOR right here on AITH!
