Terminator: Genisys is being re-mastered for IMAX 3D

Love it, hate it, or lukewarm it, TERMINATOR: GENISYS is coming to theaters in 5 months’ time and if you’re going to catch a theater screening, might as well go big or go home, eh? What’s being dubbed as the “reset” of the Terminator franchise is now being re-mastered for IMAX theaters. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are actually sitting on Jai Courtney‘s bulbous head.

Producer Megan Ellison states that, “The IMAX experience is the most immersive film experience in the world, and I am thrilled that fans of the franchise and newcomers alike will be able to experience the film in this premium format.” She’s right in that IMAX is the most immersive experience, but only when films take the time to shoot in that format (INTERSTELLAR, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL). I was hoping that with the previously mentioned, we might see more movies adopt the format but it looks as though it wasn’t meant to be. I can hardly blame folks, as most theaters billed as IMAX are anything but. Hey, at least we have one scene in the upcoming FORCE AWAKENS shot in the actual format!  In the meantime, here’s hoping the positive script reviews we saw yesterday for TERMINATOR: GENISYS are on par wih the final film experience.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS hits IMAX and regular theaters alike on July 1, 2015.
