The YouTube-turned-Netflix series Cobra Kai, a TV continuation of the Karate Kid franchise, is one of the best shows around these days. I’m anxiously waiting for Cobra Kai season 4 to reach the Netflix streaming service on December 31st – and I was amused to see that the merchandising for the show now includes a toy line in which characters from the series are pitted against some of the biggest heroes of my childhood: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
Going for around $40 each, this toy line consists of four two packs:
Michelangelo vs. Daniel LaRusso
All of these figures stand 6″ tall. The Turtles have 34 points of articulation, while the Cobra Kai characters each have 16 points of articulation.
I never expected to see Karate Kid and Ninja Turtle characters cross paths, but seeing these 1980s icons (plus modern addition Miguel Diaz) being marketed together does warm my heart a bit.
Cobra Kai season 4 finds
the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos joining forces to take down Cobra Kai at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament… and whoever loses must hang up their gi. As Samantha and Miguel try to maintain the dojo alliance and Robby goes all in at Cobra Kai, the fate of the Valley has never been more precarious. What tricks does Kreese have up his sleeve? Can Daniel and Johnny bury their decades-long hatchet to defeat Kreese? Or will Cobra Kai become the face of karate in the valley?
The show stars Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence, Martin Kove as John Kreese, and Xolo Maridueña as Miguel Diaz. Also in the cast are Courtney Henggeler, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Vanessa Rubio, Peyton List, Dallas Dupree Young, Oona O’Brien, and Griffin Santopietro. Season 4 is also adding Thomas Ian Griffith into the mix as The Karate Kid Part III villain Terry Silver.
