Apple TV+’s hit comedy series Ted Lasso eyes its return for season 3 this March. The popular Jason Sudeikis soccer sitcom has just released a new teaser and shows what’s in store for Lasso and company, according to Deadline. The third season continues right after the events of the finale of season 2. The newly-promoted AFC Richmond faces much ridicule from the media as they’re predicted to be in last place in the Premier League.
The synopsis per Deadline reads, “In the wake of Nate’s (Nick Mohammed) contentious departure from Richmond, the newly dubbed “wonder kid” has gone to work for Rupert (Anthony Head) at West Ham United. Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) succeeds Nate as Richmond’s assistant coach, alongside Beard (Brendan Hunt). Ted (Jason Sudeikis) continues to deal with pressures at work as well as his own personal issues back home.”
The synopsis continues, “When we reunite with Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), she is focused on defeating Rupert, and Keeley (Juno Temple) is navigating being the boss of her own PR agency. Things seem to be falling apart both on and off the pitch, but Team Lasso is set to give it their best shot anyway.”
Originally, the developers of the series, Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt, had envisioned the series as having a 3 season arc. However, the show had taken off in popularity and garnered multiple awards wins. Season 3 will also star Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brendan Hunt, Toheeb Jimoh, Cristo Fernandez, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, and James Lance.
Channing Dungey, the CEO of WBTV says the season ends “beautifully.” Then, she teases, “If that is all we do in the Ted Lasso universe, I think the fans will be really happy and excited. But there’s also a way to crack open a door. If we’re fortunate enough to do more, we can keep on going.” The show is based on a series of sketches that were a pre-existing format and characters from NBC Sports. Series star Sudeikis also serves as executive producer, alongside Bill Lawrence with his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros.
The next season of Ted Lasso premieres on March 15 on Apple TV+. The previous two seasons can also be viewed through the streaming service.
