Upon the release of Ted Lasso last summer, it took Apple less than a week to renew the comedy series for a second season; in fact, they wound up renewing it for a third season just months later. Well, that second season is on the way and a new trailer has revealed that Ted Lasso will return to Apple TV+ on July 23rd. Break out the biscuits.
The series stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, an "American football coach hired to manage a British soccer team—despite having no experience. But what he lacks in knowledge, he makes up for with optimism, underdog determination…and biscuits." The first season received rave reviews, as well as plenty of awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for Sudeikis. I haven't caught the series myself yet, but I've got to love that tagline — kindness makes a comeback — especially in this day and age.
The official synopsis for Ted Lasso:
Jason Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso, a small-time college football coach from Kansas hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience coaching soccer. In addition to starring, Sudeikis serves as executive producer, alongside Bill Lawrence (Scrubs) via his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold also serves as an executive producer with Liza Katzer as co-executive producer. The series was developed by Sudeikis, Lawrence, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt, and is based on the pre-existing format and characters from NBC Sports.
The second season of Ted Lasso will debut on Apple TV+ on July 23, 2021.
