Although Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. seems as though it's on the bubble each time it came up for renewal, the Marvel series has managed to keep on truckin'. Last season's finale found a dying Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) leaving with Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) to spend his last days in Tahiti, and the recently released teaser trailer for the upcoming sixth season of the series declares that Agent Coulson is dead, but is he really?
As I haven't watched the series for quite some time, most of what's on display here is more than a little unknown to me, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans will likely be pumped by the return of the team. The teaser also comes to a conclusion with a shot of a man who certainly looks like Agent Coulson, but denies knowing anything about S.H.I.E.L.D. How mysterious. Many had assumed that the sixth season would be the last for the series, but ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey had previously stated that they weren't looking at it as a finale. "I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet," Dungey said. "We don’t plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing." That turned out to be true as ABC renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a seventh season last November. The sixth season, which will consist of thirteen episodes, will debut in July 2019.
