Despite the absence of Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, the INSIDIOUS story continues with CHAPTER 3. Why it's called CHAPTER 3 when it's a completely different story (and a prequel at that) is beyond me, but there ya have it. The newest chapter is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell, as James Wan was too busy getting fast and furious. The prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, will reveal how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agreed to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who had been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. While a full trailer wont hit until tomorrow, and teaser is online for your viewing pleasure.
I can't claim to be the biggest fan of the first film, but I find it somewhat questionable that they'll be releasing this flick at the end of May; heart of the summer movie season. Perhaps they feel people will be Ultron'd out at that point? If audiences have proved anything, it's that they enjoy seeing things go bump in the night, even if the story isn't all there. The modestly budgeted ANNABELLE has raked in over $150 million worldwide. Not bad considering it cost less than $7 million to make. Those are about the same numbers that INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 pulled in. As long as these horror flicks can keep thier budget to a minimum, we'll see CHAPTER 37 before you know it.
INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 comes our way May 29, 2015.
