One of my favorite films of all time is THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, a movie I love almost as much as the original THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, but for very different reasons. One of the greatest things about that awesomely insane movie is the performance delivered by actress Caroline Williams as the heroine Stretch, a radio DJ who understandably stirs up some romantic feelings in the heart of the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. A press release for Williams' latest genre project describes her casting in TCM2 this way:
When Tobe Hooper and L.M. Kit Carson began casting for the sequel to Hooper’s iconic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, they discovered the punkass actress, who ran screaming down the hallway of the casting office. She burst into the room, pulled the chairs from beneath the duo, and played the brief dialogue while huddled in a corner. In that often told moment, she won the role from 440 actresses from both coasts.
The new project is called TEN MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT (no connection to the great Charles Bronson movie 10 TO MIDNIGHT), and in this film Williams will again be playing a radio host.
Erik Bloomquist will be directing TEN MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT from a screenplay he wrote with Carson Bloomquist. The plot:
On the eve of forced retirement, a violent hurricane traps veteran late night radio host Amy Marlowe and her uneasy staff at WLST while her mysterious new replacement shadows her every move.
Williams is joined in the cast by Nicholas Tucci, Adam Weppler, Nicole Kang, and William Youmans.
I would have loved to have seen Stretch encounter Leatherface again at some point, and Williams even made a cameo in LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III that could have led into such a sequel. But since that ship has probably sailed, I'll settle for watching her play a radio host again.
