The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham is set to be released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on August 18th. The perfect date, since director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it HERE) was set on August 18, 1973. In preparation for the release date, a technical test will be held for the PC Steam version of the game from Thursday, May 25th through Monday, May 29th, and this test will be free to the public!
The game’s official website explains that you can get in line for the technical test by wishlisting The Texas Chain Saw Massacre on Steam. By doing this, you can stay informed of when the technical test page goes live. If you are chosen to participate in the technical test, “You will receive an email from Steam when you are added to the Tech Test. You will see your status on the store page for the base game, as well.” Seats will be limited, but they haven’t picked the exact seat number yet.
The site also gives the required specs for fans who want to participate in the technical test: “Please keep in mind, these specs are intentionally a bit more strict than what will be present at launch. The final build of the game will have further optimization and that will impact the required specs allowing a wider variety of machines to run the game well.
The specs needed to play The Texas Chain Saw Massacre:
1080p 30FPS: i5 CPU / 8GB RAM / 30GB HDD / RTX 2070
1080p 60FPS: i7 CPU / 16GB RAM / 30GB SSD / RTX 3070
4k 30FPS: i7 CPU / 16GB RAM / 30GB SSD / RTX 3090
4k 60FPS: i9 CPU / 16GB RAM / 30GB SSD / RTX 4090“
The technical test is being done to “see how the game handles the player base, the servers, the gameplay, and the ins and outs of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. This will not only be for players but will also be for us to see what works and what may possibly need improvement before the release date of Friday, August 18th, 2023.” Participants “can expect PVP matches with other people who received Steam keys. You will only be allowed to access the Family House map during the Technical Test. Players can expect to play as Victims Leland, Connie, Sonny, and Ana. For Family, players will be able to choose from The Cook, The Hitchhiker, and Leatherface.“
Matches of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game will pit 4 victim characters against 3 killer characters. The story of the game has the following set-up: When Maria Flores went missing, and local law enforcement seemed to stall out in their search, her younger sister Ana teamed up with some of Maria’s friends from college to pick up the trail. The game takes place before the events of the original film.
The mo-cap performers included genre icon Kane Hodder (who did stunt work on Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III) as Leatherface, Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) as The Hitch-hiker; Troy Burgess (Swedish Dicks) as The Cook; Kristina Klebe (Don’t Kill It) as new killer character Sissy; Dove Meir (Dig) as new killer character Johnny; Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), doing the mo-cap for all of the female victim characters; and Hunter C. Smith (Lucky), doing the mo-cap for all of the male victim characters. Although Whalen is doing the mo-cap for the Hitch-hiker, Edwin Neal, who played the character in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is providing his voice for the game. It has been said that Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night) is also in the game’s cast. You can find out more about the killer characters at THIS LINK and the victim characters HERE.
