It seems that Marvel has found their She-Hulk as Deadline has reported that Tatiana Maslany has signed on to play the title character. After being blown away by Maslany's work on Orphan Black, I'm absolutely thrilled by this news as I'm sure she'll more than do justice to the role. In the comics, Jennifer Walters was a young woman who received an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, who just so happens to be Bruce Banner. As a result of this transfusion of radioactive blood, Jennifer found that she could transform into a large, powerful green-skinned version of herself, but unlike her cousin, she's able to retain much of her intelligence and emotional control.
Jessica Gao, who won an Emmy for her work on Rick & Morty's "Pickle Rick" episode, is developing and leading the writing team for She-Hulk, and it was revealed earlier this week that Kat Coiro (MARRY ME) had been tapped to direct the pilot and several other episodes as well as serve as executive producer. In addition to Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany has also been featured in World Without End, Parks & Recreation, and HBO's recent Perry Mason reboot, in addition to feature-films such as THE VOW, WOMAN IN GOLD, STRONGER, and DESTROYER. There were rumours swirling earlier this year that Marvel Studios was looking for an "Alison Brie-type" to play She-Hulk, which led many to say, "why not just get Alison Brie?" The GLOW actress commented on the rumours this summer, and while I think she would have been fantastic in the part, I've got to say that I'm more excited about Maslany. It's possible that we might get to see Mark Ruffalo reprise his role of Bruce Banner/Hulk for the Disney+ series as the actor teased as much back in March.
How do you feel about Tatiana Maslany landing the role of She-Hulk?
