Taron Egerton debunks Wolverine rumor, says he’d love to join the MCU

Recently, rumors of Marvel looking to cast ROCKETMAN lead Taron Egerton as Wolverine for an upcoming X-Men film project began making the rounds. As it happens, many fans were hip to the idea, and began expressing their enthusiasm online for Egerton to pop his claws as the cigar chomping, Canadian badass. However, after a brief interview with Variety, the rumor has been laid to rest with Egerton saying that he will not be playing the character anytime soon.

While Egerton's denial about the role is bound to upset many who were stoked to see him suit up as the slash-happy mutant, the Kingsman franchise actor did confirm his love for the MCU, and went so far as to say that he'd love to join the Marvel family at some point down the road.

"I love Marvel and I love the movies, and I'd love the excuse to get in shape," Egerton told a Variety correspondent when asked about the fan support. "I'd love to be apart of it. Whether [Wolverine's] realistic or not, I don't know, but I'd love to be apart of one."

Prevously, Egerton revealed to Heart Breakfast that he might not have enough "edge" to play the iconic character.

“That one I think is just a rumor. As far as I’m aware it’s unfounded. I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough,” Egerton confessed at the time. Adding that, “I mean if the people at Marvel think I am, then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere.”

For the past 17 years, the part of Wolverine has been played by Australian actor Hugh Jackman. While there are no plans for Jackman to reprise his role as one of the most hot-headed members of the X-Men, one cannot rule out the possibility of him playing Old Man Logan for the MCU. I mean, I don't know what manner of contractual chicanery would need to be conjured to make it happen, but that won't keep fans from dreaming about the possibilites. Never say never is my motto.

Would you have liked to see Taron Egerton join the MCU as Wolverine? If not, who do you think should replace Jackman as the character when Marvel Studios eventually announces plans to bring the X-Men to theie cinematic universe? Let us know in the comments section below.
