After playing Gary "Eggsy" Unwin in both KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE and KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE, it seems that Taron Egerton won't be returning for the next KINGSMAN film, but that's not exactly a big surprise. More on that later. The actor recently spoke with Yahoo Movies UK while promoting the upcoming ROBIN HOOD film where he confirmed the news.
I don’t know how hot off the press this is, and I think I’m allowed to say it, but I’m not in the next Kingsman movie. That doesn’t mean I won’t be in Kingsman ever again. I was with Matthew [Vaughn] as little as a few days ago, we’re still very much in business together, but his next journey in that world doesn’t involve me.
Why is this not a big surprise? Well, if you recall, it has already been announced that the next KINGSMAN film on the slate will not be set in the present day, but will instead explore the spy organisation in the early 1900s. KINGSMAN: THE GREAT GAME is said to center around a teen named Conrad, who wants to fight in World War I, as well as an adult character rumoured to be played by Ralph Fiennes. Despite not appearing in the film, Taron Egerton does know a little about the plot thanks to chatting with director Matthew Vaughn and is quite impressed. "His idea for the new one is incredibly exciting," Egerton said. "I’m sad that I won’t be on that journey with him but it’s not the last you’ve seen of Eggsy." Following KINGSMAN: THE GREAT GAME, we can probably expect Taron Egerton to return for KINGSMAN 3, which Vaughn has said will be "the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship.
Taron Egerton's next film, ROBIN HOOD, will hit theaters on November 21st, with KINGSMAN: THE GREAT GAME set for a November 9, 2019 release.
