Quentin Tarantino set the Cannes world on fire when he decided to debut his anticipated new movie, ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, at the festival. It’s certainly the biggest movie on the docket, and everyone who sees it is going be itching to share all they can with everyone else. Tarantino understands this, but as a way of making sure everyone else around the world goes in as fresh, he’s taken to social media to urge those who see it to keep things on the down low as much as possible.

In the style of directors Joe and Anthony Russo penning an open letter about not spoiling Avengers for everyone, Tarantino typed up a letter and it was posted onto the movie’s Twitter and Instagram pages.
“I love cinema, You love cinema,” Tarantino wrote. “It’s the journey of discovering a story for the first time.”
“The cast and crew have worked so hard to create something original, and I only ask that everyone avoids revealing anything that would prevent later audiences from experiencing the film in the same way,” he added.

The movie will have its premiere at Cannes tomorrow, which is a solid two months before it hits everywhere else on July 26. That leaves a lot of time for things to be leaked, and while I don’t think Daenerys Targaryen is going to fly in and burn the Hollywood hills in a surprise third act, there’s plenty of mystery around the movie. The trailer centered on Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt’s characters trying to make it big in Hollywood, but there’s also the matter of Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie), Charles Manson (Damon Herriman) and more that remains a mystery.
Though this movie isn't quite the superhero/sci-fi/fantasy title that would normally get the anti-spoiler campaign treatment, Tarantino movies often have a level of shock and surprise that are better experienced fresh and in the moment. Critics who write about the movie are more than capable of writing a spoiler-free review, or we're all capable of just not reading them if they do have spoilers. Either way, I plan on going in with a clean slate.
