Tales from the Hood 2 rated R for violence, disturbing images, and more

The sequel to one of the very best horror anthologies out there, TALES FROM THE HOOD is hosting its World Premiere at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival, on Friday the 13th of July. And today we have word via the MPAA that the sequel has earned a hard R rating for "language throughout, violence, disturbing images, and sexual references."

The original film was (obviously) rated R as well, so this rating for TALES FROM THE HOOD 2 makes more than a bit of sense. That said, I can't help but feel this R-rating is a tad bit tame considering the first film's level of gore. Maybe they toned it all down for this new entry – or maybe the MPAA is just getting more relaxed about what they consider to be "strong graphic violence/gore" these days. I guess we'll see once the film hits (hopefully) later this year.

Here's a quick rundown on the sequel:

Keith David stars as a contemporary Mr. Simms to tell bloodcurdling stories about lust, greed, pride, and politics through tales with demonic dolls, possessed psychics, vengeful vixens, and historical ghosts. Mr. Simms’s haunting stories will make you laugh… while you scream. TALES FROM THE HOOD 2 is squarely in the tradition of outrageous, entertaining anthology horror, but it also addresses serious issues with a forceful point of view, just as folklore has done throughout history.

Original TALES FROM THE HOOD makers Rusty Cundieff (FEAR OF A BLACK HAT) and Darin Scott (DEEP BLUE SEA II) are back as writers/directors here (both scripted the first film, with Cundieff directing). TALES FROM THE HOOD 2 reunites executive producer Spike Lee for an all-new gripping, horrifying and oftentimes devilishly comical anthology.
