Takeshi Kitano’s Outrage greenlit for a sequel

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

There was a little Japanese flick back in Cannes from Takeshi Kitano called OUTRAGE that made waves as it more and more people found it’s uber-violence and fast paced action a little more than entertaining.

Variety.com has just landed word that Kitano was just given the go from his superiors to helm a sequel to his Cannes hit OUTRAGE. Here’s something to refresh your memory: The story begins with Sekiuchi (Kitamura Soichiro), boss of the Sannokai, a huge organised crime syndicate controlling the entire Kanto region, issuing a stern warning to his lieutenant Kato (Miura Tomokazu) and right-hand man Ikemoto (Kunimura Jun), head of the Ikemoto-gumi. Kato orders Ikemoto to bring the unassociated Murase-gumi gang in line, and he immediately passes the task on to his subordinate Otomo (Beat Takeshi), who runs his own crew. The tricky jobs that no-one wants to do always end up in Otomo’s lap…

If the name Beat Takeshi doesn’t ring a bell, it should. Beat Takeshi is the street name for the director Takeshi Kitano. Kitano has been involved with gang themed films before with his prior success BROTHERS. His films were often called bleak and nihilistic. However that changed ever since OUTRAGE began screening. OUTRAGE has been called gruesome, loud and very creative. Even Takeshi calls his film a “hideously violent movie.” The death scenes in the film have ranged from ordinary to ingenious methods involving a head, a rope and a luxury sedan. I’ll let your mind fill in the rest. To get a better idea of the film Takeshi had first worked on finding gruesome ways to perpetrate violence before working on the story. After he was satisfied with how much gore and violence was in the film he then filled in the plot. That’s another way to write a film.

Whether you dig ridiculous death scenes or not (and why wouldn’t you), OUTRAGE 2 is coming at us. The blood-spraying, fast talking, adrenaline pumper is now in the spotlight and updates should be hitting us like dismembered fingers. No joke. A specific type of death scene also involves chop sticks! Stay with us as we send you more updates soon.
