If I were asked to guess which popular horror novelist was going to be portrayed as the child lead in an animated adventure film, it's not likely I ever would have named H.P. Lovecraft. It's beyond my imagination, but it is indeed little Lovecraft who will be going on a fantastic voyage in HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM.
Written and directed by Sean Patrick O'Reilly, FROZEN KINGDOM is based on the graphic novel scripted by Bruce Brown and illustrated by Renzo Podesta. The story:
After visiting his father in Arkham Sanitarium, young Howard Lovecraft accidentally uses the legendary Necronomicon to open a portal to a strange frozen world filled with horrifying creatures and a great adventure.
The vocal cast includes Kiefer O'Reilly, Ron Perlman, Christopher Plummer, Jane Curtin, and Doug Bradley.
Shout! Factory will be releasing the film on DVD and Blu-ray on September 27th, and a trailer has been released online to give a look at this unexpected but intriguing project. If HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM looks like an adventure you'd like to go on, the DVD/Blu combo can be pre-ordered on Amazon.
If THE FROZEN KINGDOM is well received, there is franchise potential here. Brown wrote a trilogy of graphic novels that also took Lovecraft through "The Undersea Kingdom" and "The Kingdom of Madness".
