In anticipation of the sophomore season of YoutubeRed's COBRA KAI, the internet video giant released a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic Miyagi Dojo, the home of Daniel Larusso's former sensai, Mr. Miayagi (Pat Morita). Hosted by COBRA KAI stars Mary Mouser (Smantha Larusso) and Tanner Buchanan (Robby Keene), with assistance by Xolo Maridueña (Miguel Diaz) and Jacob Bertrand (Hawk), the video gives fans an informative guided tour through the serene interior of Miyagi's home, as well as a look at the karate master's majestic garden backyard. Fans of the old school films will remember the locale as the place where a young Daniel Larusso was meant to perform seemingly meaningless chores, that through repetition helped transform him into a self defense machine with a heart of gold.
As the kids walk the hallowed grounds of Miyagi's digs, they drop a few knowledge bombs about the history of the site, as well as a tease for an upcoming tour of the Cobra Kai Dojo. It's an informative and fun jaunt down memory lane for some, as well as an eye-opening stroll for newcomers to the Karate Kid lore.
When Season 1 of COBRA KAI drew to a close, fans of the show witnessed Johnny's (William Zabka) student Miguel defeating Johnny's own son Robby with the use of a few nasty tricks, forcing the Cobra Kai sensai to contemplate his role in teaching students to fight dirty. When the new season arrives, Johnny will find his old sensai, John Kreese (Martin Kove), arriving in town to judge his former student's new endeavor. Needless to say, things are about to get quite challenging and emotional for Johnny. Will he look to Daniel (Ralph Macchio) for guidance, or give in to the pressures of his cruel and former instructor?
We'll have to wait to find out, but in the meantime, keep sanding those floors and waxing cars, my friends. It's likely to be doing more for your self defense techniques than one would assume.
COBRA KAI Season 2 will bow on YoutubeRed in 2019.
