Taika Waititi teases that Thor: Love and Thunder is a very romantic film

Time to for Thor to get his romance on! I know not everyone was a fan, but for me, Taika Waititi breathed fresh life into the THOR franchise with THOR: RAGNAROK, so I was thrilled when it was announced that he would be returning to write and direct THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER.  As you might guess, the fourth installment of the THOR franchise might just have a little something to do with love, and Taika Waititi provided an update on the project while speaking with BBC News, which seems as though it will be heavy on the romance.

I think it's going to be really good. We've finished, we've been writing the script off and on for over a year and I'm just, actually this week, doing another pass on it. It is so insane and it's also very romantic. I'm into romances now. I just want to make a romance. I just want to make something that I've never done or never cared for. I would like to attack something like that.

Like the majority of films out there, the release date of THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER was delayed thanks to COVID-19 shutting down much of the industry, but while speaking with Total Film earlier this year, Taika Waititi said that the delay isn't necessarily a bad thing. "There are a few positive things I can take away [from the Covid-19 crisis]," Waititi said. "One of them is that a lot of these films, and films in general, are rushed, or you don’t have as much time as you’d want to have on the script and things like that… And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you’re always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we’ve given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sort of things, so we may as well use it." In addition to Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the film will also star Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Taika Waititi as Korg, and Christian Bale, who is rumoured to be playing the villain. Given where AVENGERS: ENDGAME left off, it's also possible that the Guardians of the Galaxy will factor into the film in some fashion.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER is slated to hit theaters on February 11, 2022.
